Verizon To Introduce Next Motorola Droid June 23
Comments off · Posted by admin in Adobe, Adobe Systems, Andy Rubin
Verizon Wireless on Tuesday issued invitations to the media and asked them to attend an event to be held in New York City. The invitation said that speakers at the event will include Verizon Wireless’ marketing chief, John Stratton; Google’s lead Android architect Andy Rubin; Motorola Co-CEO Sanjay Jha, and Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen. The invitation clearly says that the companies will announce the next Droid handset for the Verizon Wireless network.
Based on the list of speakers, we can make several assumptions about what’s being announced. First, the device will be made by Motorola (not HTC). Second, since Adobe’s CEO will be present, the device will likely ship with Android 2.2 Froyo and come with Flash Player 10.1 installed. There’s no other reason for Shantanu to be there. The invitation doesn’t share any details about the device itself. The event takes place at Noon on Wednesday, June 23.

Android 2.2 for Droid Available in June?

Great new coming from PC World:
I got an advance look at Google’s latest treat for Android phones, Android 2.2 (more deliciously known as Froyo) on the Nexus One. Announced this morning at Google I/O in San Francisco, the update will initially be available to Motorola Droid and Nexus One owners in June. Android users will definitely be happy with this update, which delivers faster performance, tethering/mobile hotspot and of course, Flash support.
Not only is the Saygus Vphone V1 the first device to be offered under Verizon Wireless’ Open Development initiative, it’s the first smart phone to be released on a U.S. carrier to offer two-way video conferencing. It will let callers see each other while they talk, as well as allow them to show others what they see around them in real time. Saygus’ proprietary video technology allows two Vphones to stream a video chat conversation over 3G networks at acceptable quality, but the performance isn’t as good when used with other devices, a company spokesperson said.
Packed with Google’s Android operating system, a fast 624-MHz Marvell PXA 310 processor, a 5-megapixel camera, GPS, Wi-Fi, a full QWERTY keyboard, and enough battery life for four hours of video chats, this phone could change the way we communicate. But can this device, which has an early 2010 release date, compete with such cheaper, subsidized devices as the Motorola Droid?
Despite analyst predictions that it won’t be subsidized, Saygus’ CEO hopes that resellers will subsidize the Vphone where it’s distributed and that it will be priced competitively with existing smart phones. Saygus also has plans to license its technology to other manufacturers so its two-way video calling service will be available across multiple types of handsets.

Saygus VPhone to bring video calls and a bit of chub to Android and Verizon
No comments · Posted by admin in V1 news
Saygus’ real advantage with the V1 is apparently two-way video calling, though they aren’t showing it off just yet. The hardware itself is rather chubby, but it leaves room for an oversized QWERTY keyboard that could very well solve your Droid woes. No word on price or a firm release date.
